In early 2026, our team helped bring new life to 19 West Street, a residential redevelopment at 51-55 Carleton Street in Portland. What had long been an underused site became nine multi-floor condominium units across 22,500 square feet, combining the renovation of a historic carriage house with the construction of two new twin buildings.
The goal was to reinvest in a property that had been overlooked for years and turn it into energy-efficient, low-maintenance homes in one of Portland’s most desirable neighborhoods. The redevelopment preserved the character of an 1800s carriage house once owned by Maine Medical Center, while introducing new residences designed for the way people live today. Updated landscaping and careful site planning helped the project settle naturally into the neighborhood.
What makes this project especially notable is both the mix of homes and the coordination it took to deliver them well. Inside the carriage house, the units range from one to three-plus bedrooms and include multi-floor layouts, private terraces, and roof decks. The twin townhomes offer four-bedroom layouts, two-car garage parking, rooftop outdoor space, and optional private elevators. With buyer selections and custom upgrades happening during active construction, the work required close communication, thoughtful scheduling, and strong collaboration from start to finish.
