The Dirigo FCU Lewiston branch represents a true ground-up effort; one that required clearing the slate before construction could even begin. Hebert Construction demolished two existing structures on the site, then undertook significant earthwork to fill and stabilize the terrain, including the construction of a 19-foot tall retaining wall to manage the grade change and prepare a level building pad. From that engineered foundation, a 9,600-square-foot, two-story structural steel supported building was constructed to serve as Dirigo’s new branch headquarters and executive offices; delivering a professional, purpose-built home for the credit union’s leadership and member services under one roof.

The project reflects the kind of constructability problem-solving Hebert brings to complex infill sites. Sequencing the demolition, mass earthwork, and retaining wall construction ahead of vertical building required careful planning to keep the project on schedule and within the $3.4M stipulated sum budget. The finished facility pairs a functional member-facing branch with polished executive office space, establishing a flagship presence for Dirigo Federal Credit Union in Lewiston — and continuing a long-term relationship between Hebert and one of central Maine’s most established financial institutions.
